Remember that love-hate relationship I have with heights? Why then did I think it was a good idea to not only go the middle of the world but also ride el Telefériqo? Quito, Ecuador is already the second highest capital city in the world at an altitude of 9,350 ft above sea level and well Telefériqo is literally climbing a mountain – taking you to an altitude of another 4,100 meters up the side of a volcano. I am so glad I didn’t make Ecuador a solo trip as had been a plan – I probably would’ve talked myself out of some pretty awesome experiences due to fear. Here’s my 4-Day itinerary for Quito, Ecuador:
Day 1: Friday

5:55 am – Arrival
Check-in at hotel, breakfast, relax and refresh
2:30 pm – Free Walking Tour of Old Town (Community Adventures)
7:00 pm – Foodie Walking Tour – Old Town (Community Adventures)
Day 2: Saturday

7:00 am – 6:00 pm Otavalo Market and Cultural Experience Tour (Community Adventures)
6:30 pm – 9:30 pm Coffee and Conversation in Plaza Foch
Day 3: Sunday

10:30 -11:30 Virgen del Panecillo
12:00-2:00 Basilica del Voto Nacional – climbed to the top of one of the towers – explored both towers
Day 4: Monday

10:30 am – Mercado Artesnal de la Mariscal
12:30 pm – Lunch
2:30 pm – Middle of the World Tour (Community Adventures)
Includes transportation to Museo de Intinan, Middle of the World Monument and Telefériqo
7:30 pm – Return to hotel

Other activities that were considered:
- Day trip to Mindo, Cloud forest
- Overnight trip to Baños
